2023 World Athletics Championships, Neeraj Chopra: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday lauded Neeraj Chopra for winning the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event of the World Athletics Championship, saying that he has once again made us all proud by creating history. At the same time, the Chief Ministers of Assam and Punjab also congratulated Neeraj on winning the gold medal.
Neeraj Chopra created history once again on Sunday by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships. He achieved this feat with a throw of 88.17 meters in the men’s javelin throw event in Budapest.
Khattar said on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), “My heartiest congratulations to India’s shining star Neeraj Chopra, who once again created history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships. Neeraj broke the record with a spectacular javelin throw of 88.17 metres. We all are very proud of you.
Neeraj was also congratulated for his achievement in the Haryana Vidhansabha. Congratulating Neeraj, his family, his coach and sports lovers on behalf of the entire House, Chief Minister Khattar said that once again Neeraj has made the country proud.
There is an atmosphere of celebration in his village Khandra in Panipat after Neeraj won the gold medal. His uncle Bhim Chopra said that the family was confident that Neeraj would win the gold medal. Bhim Chopra, who played a key role in shaping Neeraj’s career, told PTI over phone, “He has fulfilled his dream of winning a gold medal for his country in this competition.”
Neeraj’s uncle said, “All the family members are celebrating. The villagers kept awake the whole night and now they have gathered at our house. People from other parts are also reaching here.
He said that Neeraj’s parents are also very happy and proud of his achievement. Many residents of Khandra said that Neeraj Chopra’s hard work has given them this result.
25-year-old Neeraj Chopra made the best throw in the second after the first attempt was fouled. After this he threw throws of 88.17m, 86.32m, 84.64m, 87.73m and 83.98m.
Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won the silver with a season’s best throw of 87.82m and Yakub Walesh of the Czech Republic won the bronze with a season’s best throw of 86.67m.
Neeraj Chopra started with a foul, but took the lead on the second attempt which lasted till the end. Pakistan’s Nadeem also came second after the third round and in the end both of them got the first two places.
Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann also appreciated Neeraj Chopra for winning the gold medal. Mann said on ‘X’, “India’s Neeraj Chopra created history in the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest. Neeraj threw the javelin to a distance of 88.17 meters to win the gold medal for India. The country is always proud of Neeraj. Pick up India.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma congratulated Neeraj for winning the gold medal in the javelin throw event of the World Athletics Championships. Sharma said on the social networking platform ‘X’, “Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra’s magic worked once again. He won the gold medal in the javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championships. Excellent performance Neeraj Chopra. Your achievements continuously increase our enthusiasm.
